When were the first SUV's created?

I know they had the idea in the 20's, with "suburbans and carryall's". I would like to know where I can find info on the creation of out current SUV's. I think I heard it was in the 80's early 90's. I am writing a paper on marginal ysis and SUV's... any sites and info will be appreciated...
