Tamils in India vs Tamils in Sri Lanka?

I have not heard or read anything about the rebellious Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka getting any support, either volunteers or money, from the Tamil area in India located just across the strait. Has there been any or have Indian Tamils ignored the war in Sri Lanka?
